Association for Physical Education (afPE) ; Trustee

WHAT THE POSITION OF TRUSTEE INVOLVES:

• a 3 year period of office
• attending 4 Board meetings per year with the possibility of occasional additional meetings
• contributing to sub-committees as appropriate and according to your skills set
• possibly representing the Association on occasion at conferences and meetings as requested by the Chair or Chief Executive Officer
• acting in the best interests of the Association through:
o exercising independent thought
o ensuring that the rules of the Association are followed
o promoting the success of the Association
o exercising reasonable care, skill and diligence
o declaring any possible conflicts of interest
o maintaining confidentiality on all afPE management, business and other strategic matters.

In order to stand for selection to the Board a candidate must be either a current member of the Association for Physical Education or indicate that they stand as an independent trustee fulfilling the criteria set out in the Trustee Information Pack.

There is no restriction on any member (other than staff or trainees) being nominated for election to the Board.

Nominations from those with interest and expertise in the areas of Marketing, Public Relations and Communications; Human Resources and Remuneration (HR&R); Charity and Company Law; Digital Strategy and Health and Well-being will be particularly valuable to the Association in relation to the contributions current Board members make. In addition, School-based representation will further extend the combined skills set of the Management Board.

Where school membership rather than individual membership exists only one person from the school may be nominated for any or all of the positions but proposing and seconding may be made from the same school.

All nominations will be considered by a panel consisting of current trustees and representation from the Association’s Nominations Committee. A short list will be drawn up. Successful nominees will be invited for interview from which selection will be made and then approved by the Management Board.
