Proposed reforms of Companies House focusing on increasing the powers of the registrar and a ban of corporate directors have been broadly welcomed by ICAEW in its responses to recent public consultations.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) published a consultation on corporate transparency and register reform in 2019, which included proposals to amend company law and reform Companies House.
ICAEW has announced general support for these changes, which NEDA agrees with, including initiatives designed to reduce criminal activity and increase reliability of the information on the register, including steps that will lead to better sharing of information between relevant authorities. However, the measures should be proportionate to avoid unnecessary burdens on business.
