This year's NED Debate brought together some of the UK’s leading NEDs and governance experts for a thought-provoking exploration of corporate governance. This insight provides a look back at the event through a selection of photos, capturing key moments and highlighting an evening of lively discussion.
Hosted in association with WTW, the event combined lively debate, interactive voting, and high-quality networking in a format that mirrors the dynamics of the boardroom itself.
This year’s motion - 'This House believes UK Corporate Governance is effective' - examined the state and effectiveness of UK Corporate Governance, sparking robust discussion among a distinguished panel chaired by NEDA’s Graham Durgan. Proponents Richard Moriarty, CEO of the Financial Reporting Council, and Nina Henderson, FTSE 100 NED, faced off against opponents Vivienne Artz OBE, CEO of FTSE Women Leaders Review, and Andrew Kemp, Chair of the Audit Committee Chairs’ Independent Forum.
The debate was sharp, challenging, and thought-provoking, with a major shift in opinion between the opening and closing votes - ultimately siding with the opposition, showing just how persuasive constructive debate can be.
Our thanks go to our sponsors Equiniti and Board Intelligence, and partners BDO and CMS, whose support and engagement helped make the evening such a success.
The photos below capture some of the highlights from the debate. A full write-up, alongside a recording and deeper insights, will be published in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more.
We look forward to seeing our NEDA members for next year's debate, and indeed for more events in the upcoming year.
