The NED Debate 2025: Is UK Corporate Governance Effective?

We are delighted to announce the motion for this year’s NED Debate: “This House believes UK Corporate Governance is effective.”

On Wednesday 24 September 2025, we’ll gather at WTW's Auditorium in London to explore one of the most critical and timely questions facing boards today.

UK Corporate Governance has long been regarded as a global benchmark – but is it truly effective in practice?

To explore this, we're bringing together a panel that reflects the very heart of the debate issue.*

Proposing the motion will be CEO of the FRC, Richard Moriarty - whose role places him at the forefront of shaping and overseeing regulations for UK Corporate Governance - alongside Nina Henderson, an experienced FTSE 100 NED whose extensive international board experience offers global expertise for the UK-focused governance lens.

Challenging them will be Vivienne Artz OBE, CEO of the FTSE Women Leaders Review and a prominent voice for governance reform, together with Andrew Kemp, Chair of the Audit Committee Chairs' Independent Forum, bringing deep expertise of financial oversight and boardroom accountability.

And the debate doesn't stop there - the motion will open to the Floor, giving you the chance to have your say on the matter. As always, votes will be taken before and after the debate, providing a unique snapshot of how perspectives shift as the arguments unfold.
